A Continued Partnership to Scale and Invest in Innovations in Racial Health Equity
Since 2020, Village Capital has been working in partnership with Johnson & Johnson Impact Ventures to improve the healthcare innovation ecosystem through supporting startups reducing systemic inequities in the US healthcare system. Our alumni startups are focused on expanding access to care, enabling culturally competent care, and supporting under-resourced workers.
In 2023, we will be leading a unique J&J healthtech alumni program with customized technical assistance and access to networks and investments to help further scale their solutions.
For this program, we will have two tracks:
Track 1: A subset of 6 alumni companies will receive highly curated technical assistance support through milestone development, hands-on mentorship, expert-led workshops, and coaching. Each company will also receive a USD $5,000 equity-free participation stipend that will go towards milestone development and be invited to pitch at an in-person investor convening.
Track 2: General alumni support will be provided for all alumni companies through expert-led workshops.
The United States has the worst income-related health disparities compared to similarly wealthy nations, with income inequality often drawn along racial lines. According to the CDC, "racial and ethnic minority groups experience higher rates of illness and death across a wide range of health conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, asthma, and heart disease, when compared to their white counterparts."
Through our partnership with Johnson & Johnson Impact Ventures, we’ve supported over 30 startups focused on improving health equity for BIPOC, low-income, or other underserved communities in the United States.
To be eligible for Track 1 and Track 2, you should have participated in and fully completed either of the following programs that took place between 2020-2022:
Supporting Frontline Healthcare Workers Showcase (2020)
Building a Culturally Competent Health Care System (2021)
Innovations in Health Equity (2022)
