Kroger Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation’s Innovation Fund
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation is excited to partner with Village Capital to help source, understand and unlock capital to support innovative solutions that prevent, recover and recycle food waste.
Each year, American consumers, businesses and farms collectively spend $218 billion growing, processing, transporting and disposing of food that is never eaten. That equals 52 million tons of food waste sent to landfill annually, plus another 10 million tons that is discarded or left unharvested on farms. Meanwhile, over 50 million Americans struggle with hunger.
We believe in the potential for innovation to help reinvent the food system and tackle the gaps between production and consumption to ensure food never arrives in the landfill.
Our search for the best innovations will be informed by an Advisory Committee made up of investors, entrepreneurs and experts who work in and around the food system.
