Village Capital and CIIE, IIM Ahmedabad held the Last Mile 2014 Accelerator. This program seeked ventures that enable the distribution of critical products/services or increase access to cleantech, health, agri or education for underserved/”last mile” populations.
The program focused on peer mentoring and peer selection of the best teams by their peers. It consisted of three skills-based workshops focused on training entrepreneurs to assume an “investor lens,” with coaching and mentoring from other entrepreneurs, investors and industry experts. The program culminated with a Demo Day, at which each company presented to a group of investors.
The program also included Rs. 60 lakh in pre-committed investment funds for the top two start-ups (Rs. 30 lakh each), as selected by the entrepreneurs themselves through a peer-review process. The accelerator started May 21st with a four-day workshop. Subsequent engagement included two additional weekend sessions in July and August, online presentations, and a Demo Day in August.
