Last Mile: Ahmedabad 2014

Last Mile: Ahmedabad 2014

Village Capital and CIIE, IIM Ahmedabad held the Last Mile 2014 Accelerator. This program seeked ventures that enable the distribution of critical products/services or increase access to cleantech, health, agri or education for underserved/”last mile” populations.

The program focused on peer mentoring and peer selection of the best teams by their peers. It consisted of three skills-based workshops focused on training entrepreneurs to assume an “investor lens,” with coaching and mentoring from other entrepreneurs, investors and industry experts. The program culminated with a Demo Day, at which each company presented to a group of investors.

The program also included Rs. 60 lakh in pre-committed investment funds for the top two start-ups (Rs. 30 lakh each), as selected by the entrepreneurs themselves through a peer-review process. The accelerator started May 21st with a four-day workshop. Subsequent engagement included two additional weekend sessions in July and August, online presentations, and a Demo Day in August.

IIM Ahmedabad’s Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) is India’s premier business incubator and accelerator. Since 2008, CIIE has invested in more than 90 startups, who have raised a cumulative $28 million in follow-on funding and generated $40 million in revenue.
