James has spent his career as a venture operator, investor and advisor taking a hands-on approach to corporate and financial design and management. Building off a foundation in financial services, technology and entrepreneurship, he has spent the past decade designing, launching and growing high-impact ventures driving positive financial, social and environmental outcomes. At Closed Loop Capital, James focuses on venture capital investments in early stage agriculture technology and food system innovations across the U.S. and Canada. Prior to Closed Loop Capital, James was a venture strategy advisor for new enterprises and foundations including Packard Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation, where he designed and launched new enterprises in healthcare finance, sustainable fisheries, urban education and renewable energy. His prior venture operating and investment experience includes roles at eSecLending (sold 2006), e2e Materials, CEI Community Ventures, BR Ventures, Comet Action Sports and AIDC Imports. James began his career in high net worth client management at Eaton Vance Management in Boston. He earned a BA from Hamilton College with additional study at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and a MBA at the S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University. As a Cornell alumnus dedicated to venture creation and development, James was recognized as a Jonas Weil Entrepreneur Fellow.
